By Dougal Dixon This is a really cool book, depicting what the world may be like fifty-million years from now, long after man has dropped out of the picture. The beginning of the book quickly goes over evolution-cell genetics, natural selection, animal behavior, form and development, food chains and then gives the history of life on the planet until the present. The remainder of the book consists of descriptions and depictions of these strange new animals, such as the Rabbuck (which basically looks like a deer with a rabbit head), Falanx (from ferrets), and the Helmetted Hornhead, among others. I thought this book much more entertaining than THE FUTURE IS WILD series on television because the animals are so much more interesting and plausible.
