Author: Randall BoyllThe Butlers and Pruetts, best of friends and neighbors, decide to get away from it all by camping out at a secluded cabin up in the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. The Pruetts had recently lost their six-year-old daughter, who died in a skateboard accident. But once up at the cabin strange things start to happen. The Butler's boy, Ricky, has strange dreams-and the others start seeing these mysterious women out in the woods. When things get too weird they all decide to leave-but their car is flipped over. Glen Pruett is trapped beneath it and eventually dies. The others try to get away back down the road they came down-but all the trees start rapidly growing. For all practical purposes the land around them has returned to how it was over a hundred years ago. This is because some spirits, who died on the mountain, want to 'set what's right' and finally resolve a tragic incident from their past. The women are possessed, as is the father-and Ricky must survive until help comes. And help comes in the form of a drugged out man, who turns out to be Robin's uncle. Her ghost is communicating with him and warns him of what is happening up at that mountain. In the end it's like an amalgamation of THE SHINING and EVIL DEAD, but not as well done as either of those two.I'd have to say this novel was a disappointment as I've greatly enjoyed Boyll's other books-MONGSTER, CHILLER and KATASTROPHE.
