The opening scene is on an alien planet with these crystalline structures. A woman named Andrea is trapped and a soldier comes by who is attacked by crab-looking ALIENS.
The crew on an Earth spaceship awakens after 18 months in suspended animation. They are going to this habitable planet called Chione. However, the people who are already there, miners, don't want these new people in their business--and they end up doing something very bad to them, which is surprising since you think they're all going to be the primary characters of this book. Whatever those alien structures are, they seem to be influencing the humans' behavior and they'll do anything to protect them.
I like this series far far better than the new PREDATOR series from Dark Horse Comics, also written by Arcudi. I think it's because this takes place in the future, where basically anything can happen. The PREDATOR series, on the otherhand, takes place in the "present", which I always find kind of boring (the reason why the last ALIEN VS. PREDATOR movie didn't work for me). Also, there are plenty of surprises and a new variation on the ALIEN creatures. Recommended.
