Volumes 1-4 Tpb

I haven't been keeping up with the comic adventures of the X-MEN for well over a decade and a half, but thought I'd give this Joss Whedon scripted book a shot, being a fan of most all of his work so far. ASTONISHING X-MEN comes off as a followup to the classic Chris Claremont/John Byrne days, with the quarrel of Wolverine and Cyclops and the attraction between Kitty Pryde and Colossus (Yes, Colossus returns!). And the two finally get together. Meanwhile, Cyclops is in a relationship with the supposedly reformed Emma Frost, The White Queen, who may be up to something sinister. And The Beast is rapidly devolving into something that looks like a big blue Himalayan Cat.
Oh, and there's an alien villain who wants to destroy all of Earth's mutants because he believes that such a mutant will be responsible for the death of his planet in the future. Ironically, the identity of this person turns out to be someone he's responsible for in the first place. Last but not least, there's an unlikely traitor associated with the X-MEN, someone (thing) who is usually in the background and you don't give a second thought to.
These four volumes collect issues 1-24 of the comic book series and is a great re-introduction to the X-MEN for those who have lapsed keeping up.
