The amazing thing about this new comic series is how writer Robert Kirkman can cram so much info and characterization in a single issue. #1 establishes that protagonist Gary Hampton is attacked by a werewolf while on a camping trip with his wife and daughter in Montana. He soon recovers - and learns about his new 'condition' when the security cameras around his house videotape the creature in action. No sooner than he can think about what this all means for him a stranger arrives, offering help for him to control the beast. And this stranger happens to be a vampire. In the second issue it seems as though Gary has his wolf-man persona under control - and still retains his thinking when he's in wolf form. He's sort of like a superhero. Then, we're introduced to a whole group of superheroes, which establishes that his world has such characters---and, in a weird way, makes Gary's condition seem all the more plausible (within the context of the story).
