This third original novel, based on the new series, concerns new visions that President Laura Roslin is having. These visions may be caused by the recent blood transfusion of Cylon/human blood, which had put her cancer in remission. She keeps on seeing people bleeding from their eyes and mouths, which is disconcerting when she's trying to talk to someone. Most prevalent in these visions is Cylon Sharon Valerii, aka 'Boomer', who seems to be warning her of some impending disaster.
There's also a faction of people from the Sagittaron colony called Midguardians, tall Viking-like people who follow the Norse Myth pantheon. They want to become the 13th member of the Council of 12 (which represents the 12 different colonies of Humanity). I thought creating the Midguardians was cool, as it's a nod to the 'Nomen' from the original Battlestar tv series.
There's also a character introduced named Boxey, a precocious orphan who befriends some of the pilots on the Galactica. But he's suspected of being a Cylon operative and it's up to Starbuck and Helo to retrieve him from the ship Bifrost, which happens to belong to the Midguardians.
All these subplots tie together in a satisfactory way. It's as good, if not better, than the other two original books.
