Author: S.L. ViehlThis takes place in the same Universe as Viehl's STARDOC novels & BLADE DANCER. This is about some emergency paramedics, a team consisting mostly of an aquatic alien species which has been modified to function out of water. They were at first a squadron of SEAL (surgically enhanced/altered life-form) pilots, who provided planetary patrol for their world of Kevarzangia Two (where the first STARDOC novel took place). The main character is a female named Dair mu T'resa, who is a bit different from her species in that she has human DNA in her system. It was introduced into her system in order to save her, when she was afflicted by a mutative disease as a child. The main conflict is with the Skartesh, a lupine species who have fled their dying world in order to colonize parts of Dair's planet that hasn't been occupied yet. They are a reclusive people, though, and there are many religious fanatics among them. Dair befriends their religious leader, who has an interest in her as well.I can see this being a good series of novels like STARDOC and it's always interesting to see things through an 'alien' perspective.
