Owl Goingback's latest novel covers the familiar territory of an ancient indian legend that rears its ugly head in the modern day world and the half-indian woman who is responsible with destroying it. The creature is this shape-shifting octopus/insect thing that wants to breed with humans in order to perpetuate its race. It was freed from the cemetary it was imprisoned within by three wannabee witches who didn't know what they were unleashing. Ssabra Onih, who runs tourists groups in St. Augustine, is visited by an ancient indian chief and told she must stop the creature before it starts killing everyone. She has her reservations, to say the least. But the spirit will not leave her alone-and as things progress she discovers she doesn't have a choice in the matter about stopping the monster. Aboard comes a helping detective, who doesn't believe any of this at first. He, of course, has an interest in the woman-and he soon becomes a believer after he sees it in person. As with all of Goingback's novels this is a quick, enjoyable read.
