BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER OMNIBUS Volume 1
authors: Various
What I like best about these omnibus' (omnibi?) is that the stories are in chronological order.
First, is a story with Dru and Spike, which I had previously read in TALES OF THE VAMPIRES, takes place in 1900. Then there's the adaptation of Joss Whedon's original BUFFY THE VAMPIRE KILLER script, which is far, far better than that movie with Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry. It also tells what happened between the time Buffy burned down her old school's gym and was expelled and her moving to Sunnydale. Part of that time she was in Las Vegas, killing vampires with her boyfriend Pike. Angel makes an appearance at this time, though he keeps his presence from Buffy. The story of how Giles became her Watcher is also told. While Buffy's sister, Dawn, is in these stories, it makes sense if you look at it as if the stories are coming from Buffy's perspective (in which case she's always had a sister, not just from Season Four onwards...). A lot of the stories deal with Buffy coming to terms with her being The Slayer and what that means for her--and her future life--and also the degeneration of the relationship between her parents, which is heading for divorce.
Lately, I've been digging the Season Eight adventures and this goes along with it well, as it fills in some of the missing pieces of the early years.
