author: Brian Keene
Brian Keene's latest takes place on a presumably deserted island in the Pacific where they are filming a "Survivor" type reality show. However, the island is inhabited by this tribe of nasty, subhuman, and very hungry creatures. To top it off, there's a hurricane, which separates them, so they have to fend for themselves.
While this is clearly a homage to Richard Laymon's BEAST series (and this novel is an expansion of a short story Keene wrote, which tied directly to that series), it's not as good as any of those books. Also, the whole "reality show" thing as a backdrop is becoming overused, as I've recently seen it in Steve Alten's third MEG book, PRIMAL WATERS and the recently released Lincoln Child novel, TERMINAL FREEZE.
Please, authors, don't use reality shows anymore. it's not clever.
