A nuclear sub with a crew of 105 goes down near the Marianna Trench. The nuclear warheads are going to detonate in 72 hours if they don't re-establish communication with the surface. This would be a problem except for the methane ice in the ocean depths. This is highly combustible and if the missiles explode it will be like lighting a fuse for a planetary bomb. The world will end in a big bang.
The action alternates between the survivors on the submarine, who take command away from their Captain, and a rescue attempt from the surface. The government tries to recruit Dr. Eric Chase, who hasn't been in the water since the death of his wife five years earlier on a deep sea expedition. He blames himself for her death. He doesn't want anything to do with the rescue operation until they tell him that his young brother-in-law is a crewman on that ship.
Chase and his hand-picked crew are in a race against time to save the world.
As with Andrew Cosby's other graphic novels, like X-ISLE, this has a filmic feel to it and it's like reading a storyboard for a disaster movie that hasn't been made yet. Recommended.
