This graphic novel is ingenious, deftly combining the story of Frankenstein with that of Pinocchio. The setting is transplated to late 19th Century New York City, where immigrant Gepetto, with the help of local scientist, tries to save the life of his mortally ill son. He dies but they are able to bring him back from the dead by a mixture of science and the supernatural, by resurrecting him as a type of Golem. However, the creature becomes violent and is soon responsible for a string of murders in the city. Of course, now they have to stop him...
What I like best about this is the monster itself, which is wild looking and has this big glowing red eye. It also brings a whole new take to the Frankenstein monster.
