In the frontier of space, in 4012, space cops pull over and board the small craft of Mulberry (who looks just like Samuel L. Jackson). He has numerous warrants out for his arrest. He clearly has a history with their leader, who hates him. Of course, he manages to turn the tables on them and get away. Or so he thinks. They have left a bomb--and activated it. Mulberry manages to throw it out the hangar but it damages his ship and he has to force land on a desert planet. There, there's a gang of bikers. They want his stuff, particularly his weapon--but it's tied into his biosigns, as is the armor he's still wearing. So they take his body to the nearby mining town. Soon, he wakes up and there are lots of unconscious bodies in the street.
COLD SPACE is light reading and definitely has a "Western" feel to it, like Joss Whedon's FIREFLY series. Recommended.
