In the Stygian Desert Conan rescues fellow adventurer Alvazar from certain death. He had stolen "The Devil's Root" from a cult and they caught him and buried him up to his neck in sand. They go on to look for more treasure and encounter a female Djinn and some mummies in an ancient temple. They obtain the ring of a sorcerer, who wants it back. He is no longer quite human. He also has the ability to transform humans into animal-creatures to do his bidding. While this is one of the more bloody and gory Conan comic stories I've seen it also has a good sense of humor about it, particularly how Conan is constantly insulting Alvazar. CONAN AND THE SONGS OF THE DEAD is an entertaining adventure.
