Darla Vogel is a video store clerk in NYC who ingests a home-made meat-flavored candy brought in by one of her customers and is transported to a strange world that resembles Alice's Wonderland if taken over by Cthulhu. She first comes to a deserted town and encounters weird creatures made of rope. Then it's on to a large metropolis where everyone is naked. They treat her like some troglodyte because she is wearing clothes, a sure indication that she is unevolved. She takes a train to the woods, thinking it could be better than being conspicuous in the city, but is attacked by these worm creatures that assume humanoid form. They seem to want to hump her. Then she finally meets the being responsible for her special trip, in the guise of this ferocious looking satanic demon. When she's transported back to her video store she starts to question if this is all a dream or her reality or if there is a difference.
CONNECTIVE TISSUE is an entertaining mesh of H.P. Lovecraft and The Wizard of Oz, with the most unique protagonist I've come across in a long while. Oh, I also like the author's drawings, which go along with the prose.
