Author: Christopher MooreA Crow Indian by the name of Samson Hunts Alone has tried to escape his past for twenty-years. After he thinks he accidently killed a man on his reservation, he flees and ends up in Santa Barbara, eventually becoming a successful insurance salesman. Now with the name of Sam Hunter he has a Mercedes, a condo and a completely hollow life. That is, until he meets a woman named Calliope Kincaid, with whom he falls head-over-heels in love. Then, a being from Indian legend comes knocking on his door. This is Coyote, the Trickster, who quickly turns Sam's life into a shambles. It turns out that when Sam had gone on his 'visionquest' long ago, he obtained Coyote as his animal guide-and it's been Coyote who has affected his life ever since. He soon loses his condo and his job-and Calliope is killed. With the help of Coyote he manages to go to the underworld, to try to bring her back to the land of the living. Here we learn that the Egyptian God Anubis is actually Coyote's brother (makes sense with the dog heads). Will Sam get Calliope back? Will he put to rest his conflict wit his past?COYOTE is a fun book and I enjoyed it as much as Moore's other books-LOVE IN VEIN (about vampires) and PRACTICAL DEMON KEEPING.
