I'm a sucker for dinosaurs and time-travel books and when I saw this one on the shelves of my local bookstore I was compelled to read it. Paleontology student Rick Clements is given a once in a lifetime opportunity-to go back in time 65 million years and study live dinosaurs in their natural habitat. The whole operation is run by a sleazy businessman who intends to have a resort for rich folks in the Cretaceous. You see, in the near future in which this takes place the majority of wild animals and forests have been destroyed, so this would be something totally different. A rich billionaire, his new fiancee and his daughter are also on board for the ride - and it's Clement's duty to babysit the twenty-year old daughter so she doesn't get in any trouble or worse yet, so she isn't bored. The other members are the pilot and several guys who are part of the 'safari'. The time machine itself resembles a Classic UFO and the place they go back to, an island in a sea where Montana will be, already has stone building on it, buildings that were already there, presumably built by other time travellers. But as Clements suspects, the time machine they arrived in was stolen by the sleazy businessman-and that the existing stone buildings were built for a specific reason. The reason turns out to be the K-T event-when a huge asteroid will impact the earth and kill off all the dinosaurs. Their resort spot is an observation post for one of earth's most spectacular disasters! In a literal race against time they have to try to get back-but the time machine is stolen by two of the group and so they have to somehow survive the ending of the world. CRETACEOUS SEA is an entertaining page turner with believable characters, a great premise and, of course, lots of dinosaurs. Written by Will Hubbell
