In this first graphic novel, teenager Alex Elder gets transformed into a new species of vampire and must deal with is new 'life'. His mentor is an ape-like humanoid by the name of Ekimus, an immortal and of a species named the Grigori that predates humanity. In fact, they had sided with Lucifer when those angels revolted in heaven and immortality is his curse. With Alex he hopes to rid the world of the vampires since he's responsible for their creation.
Other characters are Senator Van Fleet, a powerful vampire who coincidently employs Alex's father as an executive assistant. Scarlet, a member of 'The Order of the Red Hood', is a vampire hunter and she tries to kill Alex, though she comes around to his side once she realizes the people she's working for are insane. And there's the reincarnation of Saint George, an African-American police officer who has to figure out how he fits into all of this.
There's a lot going on in the story but works fairly well. The art is a little too Manga-like for my tastes but works and portrays the vampires well.
