This graphic novel takes place in a desolate future in which Nick Master is a driver. He delivers packages from one barricaded city to the other. When his sister is held hostage he's blackmailed into delivering a package to San Francisco. But it's a "dead Run", meaning there's no way he can make it there alive. It's way too dangerous, in both the terrain and the hideous cannibalistic mutant inhabitants that inhabit the countryside.
Nick goes to the only other person who made it through the "Dead Run" but the old guy refuses to help. His plucky daughter, Becki, overhears and offers to help, since she's heard her father's stories and knows the route. He reluctantly agrees to take her along. They constantly bicker. One of the more terrifying situations they encounter is a mutant town that is holding human females captive and using them for breeding stock. Becki is captured and Nick has to rescue her from the insane "Doctor", who is the most deformed creature yet.
This book is along the lines of movies such as AFTER THE FALL OF NEW YORK and THE ROAD WARRIOR. As with the majority of original material coming from BOOM! STUDIOS this reads like the storyboards for as yet to be produced film. Recommended.
