This one-shot comic from Marvel reinterprets its Classic Dracula and puts him in the middle of an epic story. It's told from the point of view of Dracula's son, Janus (who was born in the old Marv Wolfman/Gene Colan series in the 70's). It begins with a meeting of all the different clans of vampires on an ancient Greek Island. Xarus, Janus' younger brother, is evil and is up to no good, while he himself is the voice of reason in regard to the whole situation. We soon find out he wants to take over and run the vampires his way when he unexpectedly kills his father (well, it's not totally unexpected since THAT is the title of the book!). He no longer wants to hide from mankind and has developed a device that will enable vampires to walk in the daylight, something that will indeed make them unstoppable. There's a fight between the two siblings and it looks like Janus will be fried when the sun rises. Yet he miraculously survives, which surprises Xarus enough that he's able to make his escape in a boat.
This story had me hooked and I believe is intended to lead into Marvel's new X-MEN series, in which they fight vampires (I guess vampires are the new evil mutants). The artwork portrays the bloodsuckers as vicious and I thought it interesting that Dracula resembles how he's portrayed in another publisher's book, THE SWORD OF DRACULA. He has long white hair, no beard, and is athletic looking. If you've been a follower of Marvel's Dracula character you will definitely enjoy this.
