The crew of the Enterprise (Next Generation) is sent on a mission to destroy an artificial wormhole that's being constructed in Cardassian space. With it the Cardassians will be able to easily bring in reinforcements of the lizard-like Jem'Hadar and thus obtain an upper hand in the war against the Federation. With the help of Ro Laren, who has been a renegade for the past ten years since her time serving on the Enterprise, Picard is able to get near it.In the meantime, the Dominion has sent a crew of prisoners to obtain a substance from a black hole, which is necessary to the construction of the artificial wormhole. This crew, led by a former Enterprise crewmate, plans to escape, but they are watched by two massive Jem'Hadar ships. In a brief battle, the Dominion ships are sucked into the black hole and Picard and his crew save the former prisoners. This is an interesting book (one of four), which gives the perspective of the Dominion War through Picard. Since the war was shown through the tv series DEEP SPACE NINE, it helps fill in the blank between the first two NEXT GENERATION STAR TREK movies.
