Stephen King is back in short story form with EVERYTHING'S EVENTUAL and it's easily as good and fun as his NIGHT SHIFT and SKELETON CREW collections. There's plenty on tap here for everyone, whether you're a fan of cheap thrills, gore, knee-jerking scares, ghosts, or meditations on death itself.'Autopsy Room Four' starts the book out with a warped twist on an old Alfred Hitchcock show and 'Lucky Quarter' wraps things up with the desperate hope that we all harbor as human beings. In between, there's the thrilling and poetic 'Riding The Bullet' (where a young college student must face his mother's mortality...and his own), the horrific vampire tale 'Little Sisters Of Eluria' (which is a prequel to the DARK TOWER books!), and many other interesting tales.Standouts for me include 'Lunch At The Gotham Cafe' (which mixes the old King theme of quitting smoking with a man's insane divorce proceedings, set in a small restaurant as his waiter literally goes insane!) and '1408'---truly a remarkable and effective haunted hotel room tale that is sure to send shudders down your spine. King reminds us he still has what it takes and that THE SHINING was indeed no fluke.'The Man In The Black Suit' is also another tale worth mentioning, and in addition to being very foreboding, it also has that STAND BY ME flavor as a youngster gets an up close and personal visit from evil incarnate...in a way you wouldn't expect. It's truly haunting and powerful. So if you need some short scares or thrills, lock your doors, close your windows, turn on the lights...and start reading EVERYTHING'S EVENTUAL. The Master is back...and here to stay!
