This second issue begins with the mute humans, armed with weapons, raiding an artillery factory--and it explodes. Over a dozen chimp workers are killed. When Zaius and the other apes investigate, they find an old Fire Department Axe left behind--a weapon that originates from the Forbidden Zone. Then, we go to the Forbidden Zone where we see Chimp Timon follow a human into a building. It's here he re-encounters former General Aleron, the gorilla from the BETRAYAL ON THE PLANET OF THE APES mini-series.
Back in Ape City, Dr. Milo (a character from ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES) is at odds with the female Chimp, Prisca. Milo has "discovered" electricity and says he's way to busy to help her. She's the only one who can communicate, via sign language, with the humans and wants Milo's help to find them. He wants nothing to do with politics--but tells her where to go. She travels out into the desert and finds an injured human, Tern, on horseback. He was injured from the raid on the factory in the opening sequence. Prisca gets on the horse and tells her mount to "take them home". However, when she's led into the destroyed human city she's attacked by a human--and rescued by Aleron just in time. Meanwhile, Timon, returns to ape city is captured--and he tells Councilor Zaius that the humans are amassing an army--and that he can lead them to it.
Unlike the ongoing POTA series by Boom! this takes place less than twenty-years before the very first, original Apes movies. It's also cool it features Zaius and Milo in their earlier years.
