Written by John Darnton. A group of young people are kept prisoners on a small island while doctors oversee them and occasionally perform sudden operations. When the girlfriend of one of the guys is killed he runs away and manages to escape by hiding in the back of the supply plain. Then we go to a 30 year-old NYC journalist investigating a series of murders in Upstate New York, in which the bodies are mutilated to make them unidentifiable. In this work he interviews a female doctor, they hit it off and soon start dating. Then, one day he goes back to his apartment and finds a man waiting for him-a man who looks exactly like him! This is the guy who escaped from the island. The journalist does some investigating, at first believing his doppelganger to be a long lost twin-but when they do a DNA test and it comes back as an EXACT match with his own DNA, he realizes that this person is his clone. Further investigation leads to a conspiracy over a quarter century old. Although this was a good read, the author was one step behind the reader-I kept on easily figuring out what was going on. And the entire idea of clones being used for spare body parts was used in the 70's movie THE CLONUS HORROR. This isn't nearly as good as his previous book, NEANDERTHAL.
