This anthology graphic novel tells the back-stories of the characters from Willingham's FABLES series. More than a few of them are extremely violent. Snow White travels to a far off Arabian Fable world to tell them of the danger that will soon threaten them from The Adversary, who had conquered the majority of the Fable worlds. Her goal is to make them allies. However, she's not exactly welcomed and is viewed as a threat, because of her strange ways. She'd held captive--and in order to extend her day of execution, tells the Sultan stories. The first is about how she married Prince Charming and how she asked him to train her how to fight with a sword. During this period certain dwarves in the kingdom are slain, the same dwarves who had kidnapped and raped her. The next tale is about how the woodland creatures outwitted an army of trolls in order to make it through the gateway to safety. There's a frog Prince story, which explains a great deal about that character, as well as the origin of Bigby Wolf, the original "Big Bad Wolf". The most surprising story, though, is how Snow White and her sister Rose Red came across the burnt--and regenerating--body of the old witch that Hansel and Gretel encountered. We learn how old she is and how she gets her powers.
This book probably wouldn't make much sense or have much impact if you've never read the first several FABLES volumes, so read those first! They are definitely a treat
