Author: Deborah LeBlancJessica LeJeune has the power to heal, an ability she's tried to keep to herself. When she's notified by the authorities that her younger brother is in a mental institution, waiting evaluation, she returns to Louisiana to visit him. Along with this visit come all the ghost from her past, the foremost being her abusive mother. Jessica finds out too late that she was summoned back to her roots by the god of insanity, called Maikana, who is actively causing her brother to lose his mind. This creature wants to prevent her from acquiring all of her potential healing power. Related to this is a black man named Eli, who is sent on journey to find her and help her save her brother. It's a somewhat complicated connection between the two that I don't want to spoil here.FAMILY INHERITANCE provokes a dark, foreboding feeling-and author LeBlanc has a good understanding of how insane people behave, presenting how irrational yet real their fears can be. It's also fascinating to delve into the Cajun mythology. The author's website is at www.deborahleblanc.com From Leisure books.
