Joss Whedon's graphic novel, FRAY, is a worthy continuation of BUFFY: THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, capturing the same spirit, angst and fun of the series. It's several hundred years in the future and the vampires, called Lurks, are returning to the world. Melaka Fray is visited by a horned, skull-faced demon who tells her that she's The Slayer but she has no memory, no calling for this particular line of work. She just has the strength and healing abilities of a Slayer. The nineteen-year old lives in the lower levels of the city, at odds with her older sister who is a cop. Her sister blames her for the death of their brother, who was also Fray's twin. Icarus is the head vampire, the one who killed the brother, but Icarus has a master someone no one suspects, least of all Fray. There are some interesting, unexpected twists in line with the BUFFY TV series, and it's cool. The artwork by Moline & Owens really makes this work. This graphic novel is up there with BUFFY: SEASON EIGHT.
