This six-part comic prequel to the Fox TV show is a disappointment, as the stories are all over the place and inconsistent with the events from the first season. In the first issue we are introduced to a 1970's Walter Bishop, who is teaching physics. William Bell is very much interested in his work--however, Bell is only twenty years old here, which doesn't gell with 70 year old Leonard Nimoy portraying him in the TV series. There's also a short tale of a mind-transference gone awry. Bishop and Bell are recruited by a private company to help with a secret project in Alaska. This has to do with a teleportation machine based on Bishop's theories. They witness a chimp being used in the experiment--and it gets transformed into a monster in the process. It's not until the last issue, which takes place just prior to the first episode of the show, that the illustration of Bishop looks like the actor. But then again not a heck of a lot happens.
Even if you are a die-hard FRINGE fan you will find yourself disappointed by this ill-informed series.
