Author: Jack LovejoyThis is an old-fashioned alien invasion novel which takes place hundreds of years in the future, when the Earth has long been turned into a huge game preserve for the invading force. We are given some background information by an old diary that is kept by a tribe of humans, which talks about how almost all the humans were exterminated by poison gas-and how a small group managed to survive in the wilds of a National Park.Thelon, one of these descendents, decides to explore beyond the borders of his village. He encounters wild humans, who live like animals, a society descended from a battalion of soldiers-and many strange, alien creatures. He also finds the aliens that have taken over the Earth and steals aboard one of their transports. There, he befriends a strange cat-like woman. She, like many other captive humans, were bred by the aliens to assist them on their wild game hunts. There are also gorilla-like individuals who do a great deal of the manual work. Thelon has to figure out a way to not only escape back to his own people-but to defeat these aliens.THE HUNTERS is a quick read, though in retrospect it somewhat follows the plot of L.Ron Hubbard's BATTLEFIELD EARTH, but on a smaller scale.
