If Chins Could Kill (2001)
Fiction Review by The Mortician
09.26.02

If Chins Could Kill (2001) Bruce Campbell's autobiography is subtitled 'Confessions Of A B-Movie Actor' and that about sums it up.Find out how Bruce got his start in the movie business, if he went to college, what his childhood was like, and how he met Sam Raimi. There's also on-the-set remembrances of all the EVIL DEAD movies, how he feels about being relegated to smaller roles in Sam's big films, and anecdotes from his forays into the world of television, including his brush with near-fame as the star of the short-lived BRISCO COUNTY JR. TV series. Can't forget his experiences working on A-titles like CONGO and with some of the great directors, like John Carpenter, either. This book has a great pace and is written in such an easy style that you feel that Bruce is almost in your living room with you, telling you the stories directly. He seems easy-going and humble about all his personal (and professional) successes and failures. Whether you're just a fan of Campbell's or someone looking to get into the movie business or acting, this is a great book to get an idea of how things work and what you can expect. Campbell has been very lucky with his success...but never lucky enough to get that 'superstar' break. It could still happen, but this is his story that covers how he got to where he is today. There's some great stuff in here, and the pranks that he and Raimi played on each other in the old days are really funny. There were many times when I laughed out loud reading this book. It's an all around good time from a guy well-respected in the business who has a large fanbase. If you like Campbell or have any interest in working in the world of entertainment, definitely seek this book out. It was so good I read it in one sitting!
