This is a new adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough's first Mars novel. John Carter is already captured by the four-armed, green Tharks, who are unable to communicate with him. However, he can understand them--and he comes to realize it's because of telepathy. But this adaption has Carter as a modern man, not a veteran of the civil war. In fact, when the Tharks try to grab him he exclaims, "Get your filthy paws off me, you damn dirty lizards!" It doesn't work, nor does him referring to the green martians as lizards throughout the book. The Tharks basically keep him prisoner and have a big martian dog guard him, but the fight with the four-armed white gorillas happens way too fast. The story ends with a spaceship crashing and them capturing Deja Thoris, Princess of Helium, who will be John Carter's love-interest.
I'm not sure why the world needs another comic adaptation of A PRINCESS OF MARS. Dynamite Entertainment's WARLORD OF MARS comic is perhaps the best, other than Marvel's adaptations of the novels in the 80's. Maybe it's because the theatrical version is coming out soon.
