Kitridge Walker, the present-day PHANTOM and guardian of the African country of Bengali and its people, is speaking at a fundraiser for the "Walkabout Foundation". However, someone he thinks is his friend wants him dead and messes with the motor of his plane. The plane crashes near his home but he survives, only to find that his wife and son have been murdered. So he vows vengeance. Instead of his trademark purple suit, however, he's covered in blood stains.
I've always wondered why, with 26 generations of white phantoms there's never been any native Africans, yet this finally shows him married to an African American woman, with a son, which is interesting. It's also a much darker version of The Phantom. I'm hooked for the next issue...
