This comic takes place in the future, where civilization has reverted back to the Middle Ages. Lord Darius is the benevolent ruler of one of the towns and he lives in a big mansion with the backdrop of a ruined city. This is where the mutants come from and it's one of his duties to protect his people from them. One day he is visited by a Sinclairen Priest who says the Duke of York wants a tithing of ten people from each of the surrounding kingdoms-- and Darius objects to giving his people away like slaves. When he's told that a dozen beasts are attacking a nearby community he goes to help, but it's a ruse. While he's gone the Duke of York, a sinister looking guy who rides a giant lizard, comes to visit.
When Darius returns it's too late-- everyone is killed and his young son, barely alive, is impaled to a wall with a spear. The son tells him that the Duke of York is responsible.
With the mutants, the weird-looking horses and the artwork, which reminds me of a Saturday morning cartoon from the 70's, this is like THUNDARR THE BARBARIAN, but a bit more graphic.
