This continuation of the adventures of the League may be better than the first and cleverly combines characters from the time period. Here it's 1898 and starts on Mars with Gullivar and John (Gullivar of Mars and John Carter of Mars), complete with the green, four armed Tharks created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. They are at war with creatures, who happen to be the Tripod walking creatures from H.G. Well's WAR OF THE WORLDS. The ships are fired to Earth, land in London, and start to take over. The Nautilus gets mired by Red fungus in the Thames, Quatermain and Mina hook up romantically, in a very graphic way, Hyde really goes insane and there's a member that betrays all the rest, though he gets what's coming to him in the end (literally!). There's also an encounter with Dr. Moreau and his animal/human hybrid creations, who are working for the government. It's a good story, different enough from the first series, and always amazes me how Moore is able to have all these different characters seemlessly interact with one another.
