The first issue of this "revised" Magnus, presents his origin story. A robot, 1-A had raised him from an infant, training him to be mankind's protector against the threat of bad robots. And Magnus cares about him and refers to him as "Father". No one knows who he is yet as he's just been doing after rogue robots for a few weeks. This changes, however, when someone records some footage of him in action. Magnus' friend, Leeja is also introduced, and she's tough, not the girl-in-distress from the old Gold Key comics. The issue ends with him getting a message that she's been kidnapped--and encountering a gang of thugs, one of whom is a huge cyborg.
In this issue his original origin tale is reprinted and that's a lot more in line with the 60's.
Rather than the robots being directed by evil people, the robots themselves are thought of as evil. One of the bad robots explains to him that he was exposed to an atomic accident which changed his brain circuits so he's above all robot-laws (which are against harming humans).
If you're a fan of MAGUS you'll dig this, as author Shooter had written the continuing VALIANT COMIC series in the early 90's. And if Magnus is new to you, this is a great introduction.
