Edward Lee is really on quite a roll lately. I thoroughly enjoyed his CITY INFERNAL & INFERNAL ANGEL. MESSENGER, his newest, takes place in the same 'Universe' (as does MONSTROSITY) and explains why postal workers sometimes freak out and become 'Postal'.Twenty-years ago a horrible massacre happened at the post office in Danelleton, Florida, and now, in present day, the same thing begins, only it's happening with many peopleIt all begins with this package that is found in the post office, a package sent by the devil's messenger, Aldezhor. Just as God has Gabriel as his messenger, the devil has this demon to spread his message. Once somebody opens the package they are possessed with this urge to kill others and then themselves. And they do this gleefully. There's just something really unsettling about a postal carrier going from house to house on his route, killing everyone for blocks on end.The main characters are Jane, who runs he post office, and Steve, a detective investigating the massacres. It's a little clich ©d with the relationship with the cop but the story moves so fast you really don't care. In MESSENGER there's plenty of gore, ultra-violence and the no-holds-barred writing we've come to expect from Lee. Available from Leisure Books.
