This is a fun read, reminding me of the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs or Lin Carter. Two Alaskan explorers find a hidden tunnel underneath a huge glacier-and come out onto a hidden land, whose landscape, flora and fauna are anything but Alaska's. It turns out they are in another dimension. On the other side of the glacier they come upon a river strewn with prehistoric bones and also find the skeleton of a twelve-inch tall human. He puts it in his backpack forgets about it. Later, they first meet one of the natives, who speaks English with a British accent. He's tall and white, though not caucasian. He takes them back to his village and the explorers are made welcome. The two explorers adapt quite well to this new world-and one of them falls in love with a beautiful woman. When they find out that he had picked up the bones of that small human they banish him. It turns out that instead of aging like regular humans, these people shrink in size, forget most of their memories and embark upon another life. But the woman is in love with him and follows him back to his own land. His friend remains-and helps them to escape. The book then skips to seven years later-the man and woman are living in the Alaskan wilderness and have a son. And they both miss that paradise they had left. They meet an older woman on one of their country trips-and it turns out she's from that other dimension. In fact, she's starting to go through the change where she is shrinking. Fortunately, the make their way back to the other dimension after going through a storm-and are reunited with old friends. If you like lost land adventures you will enjoy this. Written by Stephen Tall (aka Compton N. Crook).
