After the events of PRELUDE TO PLANET HULK, the shuttle containing the Hulk does not make it to the isolated, paradise planet Reed Richards said they were sending him to. Instead, it crashes on a desert-like world ruled by a vicious Emperor. Hulk is captured and is forced to fight in the arena, where he makes friends with a group of aliens who range from bug-like to rock-like in appearance.
Eventually he escapes and manages to kill the Emperor--and is then crowned as the ruler. He even gets the girl, though that is short-lived, considering what eventually happens to the planet. There is lots of action, violence and death here.
This epic Hulk story is very cool, sort of like a Conan story with the green giant replacing the Cimmerian. The Hulk also retains much of his intelligence, not the grunting simpleton he sometimes appears as. I haven't been following the Hulk comics for years but this has me hooked again.
