With all of the Robocop sequels, TV series (live action and animated), it's a good thing Dynamite Publishing has chosen to go back to the original and have this series take place after the events of the first film.
Robocop and partner Lewis are pursuing some things who have two cops hostage but are interrupted by the new improved robot sentries, which open fire on the fleeing armored car. They kill both the kidnappers and the hostages. When they get back to police headquarters the new CEO of OCP, E. Odenkirk, shows up and tells the cops that they are all fired. Because OCP owns the privatized Detroit police force they think it's more cost effective to have their robots units rather than people. They keep Murphy and give him a choice--work for them or he can leave and they'll repossess the 92% of his body that they own.
This series is off to a great start and even has the feel of the Verhoeven film, complete with newscaster Casey Wong and the guy who says "I'll buy that for a dollar". You may not be able to buy this comic book for a dollar but it's still worth a read.
