This hardcover graphic novel has much more in common with Conan the Barbarian or Tor than it does the Hulk comic. It begins on Planet Sakaar, right after the Hulk's kingdom is obliterated by a nuclear warhead, his queen killed and he leaves the planet. She had just conceived a child--which manages to survive the blast as if fueled by her spirit. It rapidly grows in the sea of fire until he emerges as a boy. He fights some monsters and comes across a group of people who were killed by Axeman Bone. Then we go to one year later, where it's believed that the Son of Hulk has been killed. But they killed the wrong teenager. He and the Axeman fight but he's not yet strong enough to defeat him. Skaar is believed to be the savior of the planet by some people, the cause of its death by others. He goes on to follow the "Path of the Prophet", accompanied by some followers, and overcomes obstacles such as giant insects, killer plants and molten rivers.
If you enjoyed the PLANET HULK books you'll love this. It's more violent and grittier.
