This is an extremely entertaining graphic novel as it features two very stubborn, egocentric characters butting heads throughout the past hundred and twenty years.
The starting point is in Romania, with the group of gypsies you had put the curse on Angelus, giving him a human soul. This group was protected by Dracula, who fancied one of the women, Magda. When the entire clan is killed by Spike, Dru and Darla, Dracula swears that he'll get his vengeance on them.
Spike first meets Dracula in the flesh soon after Bram Stoker's novel comes out. He purchases an expensive, signed copy for Dru, who finds it amusing. Spike and Drac fight after the Count hurls the book into the fire, saying what a bunch of rubbish it is.
Spike barely escapes with his life and Dracula takes the two vampire women back to his castle in the Carpathians. Just as he's about to have them kill each other he's interrupted by a flaming arrow through the window. Outside, a mob of angry villagers have appeared, incited by Spike who told them that Dracula is a bloodthirsty vampire.
Then we go to 1930's California, where Spike and Dru are seeing a stage play of Dracula with Bela Lugosi. Of course, Dracula is also there and there's another tussle.
Then we're taken to 1940's Germany with Spike posing as a Nazi--and find out that Dracula is in league with Hitler himself. Then it's on to Rome in the late 1950's and then to Wolfram and Hart in 2003, where Spike is disembodied. It turns out that Dracula is one of W & H's clients--and he's dismayed to find out that Spike is now a part of that organization.
I was always disappointed that Dracula was only featured in one episode of the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER TV series, as he's such a different kind of vampire. SPIKE vs. DRACULA definitely remedies that situation. Highly recommended.
