author: Keith R.A. DeCandido
This new Star Trek novel takes place after the cataclysmic events of STAR TREK: DESTINY, in which thousands of Borg Cubes invaded Federation space, killing billions and billions of people.
The story is about how the Federation President is dealing with all this, as well as a new threat. Half of the Romulans are getting aid from somewhere and it may be from a hostile force. A diplomatic advisor to the President, Sonek Pran (who has mixed ancestry of human, Betazoid and Vulcan) is sent aboard Captain Ezri Dax's ship Aventine, to meet with the Romulans. They end up discovering that a new alliance is being formed, The Typhon Pact, which is being led by the Tholians.
This group may end up becoming a bigger threat than both the Klingons and Romulans combined....
What I always enjoy about DeCandido's books is that he integrates all these aspects of the ST: Next Generation universe with such seeming ease, which makes him one of my favorite ST authors. A SINGULAR DESTINY sets up the scenario for the next series of books, which continue to go in unexpected directions.
