A hundred and thirty-year-old Carol Marcus, inventor of the Genesis Device, is kidnapped by unknown aliens from her high security home. Shortly later, a 'Genesis Wave' starts sweeping across part of the galaxy, reforming the planets it hits into Class L Planets, which aren't really habitable for humanoids. As it does this is destroys all original life on the surface, dissolving them and reforming them into new primordial lifeforms. It's up to the Enterprise to find out the source of this destructive wave which will eventually hit Earth and the Romulan Star Empire. Author John Vornholt is one of the few writers working in the world of STAR TREK who strives for continuity. He not only brings back Carol Marcus from WRATH OF KHAN, he brings back memorable characters from the television such as Leah Brahms (whom Geordi had a crush on) and adds some insight to some of the other cast, such as Dr. Crusher missing her son Wesley, who has been out of contact with her for seven years (this is something he picks up on in his recent A TIME TO BE BORN and A TIME TO DIE).This is the first of a three book series.
