This second graphic novel, collecting issues #5 and #6 of idw's continuing comic book series, as well as the mini-series VULCAN'S VENGEANCE. The first story is based on the original teleplay OPERATION: ANNIHILATE, when Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise go to the planet Deneva, where blob-like alien parasites have taken over or killed most of the people. In the original universe Kirk finds his brother George dead--but in this alternate timeline he's still alive, which gives Kirk an opportunity to bridge the old rift he has with his older brother, which dates from when they lived in Iowa. In VULCAN'S VENGEANCE, which is a continuation of the Romulan story from the first Trek movie, Spock goes undercover to infiltrate the Romulans that had survived. They want to avenge Nero. They have some of the red matter and threaten to use it. But the Vulcans, now an endangered species, take things into their own hands--because they believe the Romulans will always be a threat to them. Sarek even makes an appearance when Spock goes undercover to infiltrate the Vulcan's plan. The story is interesting--and answers a few questions I had from the first movie. Recommended.
