Graphic novel
A giant tentacled amoeba-like creature appears from outer space and starts absorbing the populace of the Earth. It feeds on their memories and seems to be unstoppable. When Superman tries he is absorbed - and this alien senses that Superman's memories are even more powerful. In fact, it triggers the Man of Steel's genetic memory and he sees how his distant ancestor, El, lived in a barbaric world of Krypton - and how his family line became established.
Basically, it's like a Conan the Barbarian tale and the story is STRONGLY influenced by the Biblical story of Samson and Delilah. The graphic novel isn't bad, it's just that it seemed way too familiar.
Story by Gil Kane and Steven Grant,
Art by Gil Kane and John Buscema
