Author: E.E. Knight
With each new tale of THE VAMPIRE EARTH chronicles, author E.E. Knight improves in his story-telling abilities and this third book is no disappointment. It's 48 years after a race of squid/bat-like aliens came through the portals with their monster-like minions and took over the rule of the planet. David Valentine, our hero, is a member of the Resistance and also of the elite CAT spy force. He goes undercover to work on the gunboat Thunderbolt, which travels to the Caribbean. Here, he is to uncover a rumored weapon which may help destroy the dreaded Kurians. The weapon, however, isn't a conventional one but a substance that's as old as the legends of these creatures themselves. There's pirates, a love-interest for Valentine and plenty of action which will only make you anxious to read the next book in the series, VALENTINE'S RISING.
