Written by S.M. Stirling. This second book deals with the same Von Shrankenberg family, this time one of the women characters (who is just as ruthless as any of the men). It's right after WWII and Tanya Von Shrankenberg is establishing her plantation in the newly conquered territory of Burgundia (formerly known as France!). She picks up several new 'serfs' (slaves) to help do some of the higher functioning work on the farm, like the accounting and book-keeping. Among them are a nun and a French spy. What the Draka do to slaves who disobey them is unbelievably nasty. I'll just say two words about this and you can imagine. Anus & stakes.!!!There's also another story, which eventually converges with this one, about an American spy posing as a Draka in order to smuggle out a scientist and his secrets. They are on the verge of creating a fusion explosion and the last thing the United States wants is that type of power in the Domination's hands. This second book is even more nerve grappling than the first. It's exciting and horrifying read at the same time.
