Author: E.E. Knight
This is the seventh of the author's series about freedom/humanity defender David Valentine and his personal growth and he battles the alien Kurians and their minions in their takeover of Earth. These Kurians are near-immortal vampiric creatures that can disguise themselves as humans, but otherwise look like a cross between a squid and a bat. They also use these humanoid, pale skinned Reapers to gather prey.
It's several years after Valentine has been banished from his homeland because of some political problems and he's gone undercover in Seattle. The city exists but there's a huge Kurian tower that dwarves the Seattle needle. He also goes there as an ally, as he wants to stop an insane human resistance leader who is killing hundreds of people in order to 'starve out' the Kurians. This method of operation doesn't sit well with Valentine.
As in the previous books, we're introduced to some new, weird creatures, such as giant spiders and semi-intelligent fighters called Big Mouths, which are basically humanoid killer frogs. And, as with Knight's previous books in the series, this is a good read, one of those books you won't put down. I'm always thrilled when one of these VAMPIRE EARTH novels comes out each year.
