This new adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burrough's classic, A PRINCESS OF MARS, consists of two tales. The first is a bit of history on John Carter. He and his friend fought for the South in the Civil War and are now seeking a treasure in the West. They encounter a group of soldiers, there's a scuffle, and they end up killing them all. It turns out that these same soldiers were scalping Indians, which doesn't bode well for these two white men in Indian territory....Then, we go to a tale of Martian Tars Tarkas, who will become Carter's closest friend on the Red Planet. A tribe of white, four-armed apes has captured young Tharks for food and Tars and an older warrior come to their rescue, after much bloodshed.
This is by far the bloodiest comic version of the John Carter story. The artwork is probably closest to the Marvel Comic from the 80's...
