Well, the book cover of this time-travel book states 'The Greatest Apocalyptic Thriller Since THE STAND'. I guess that's true, if 'since' refers to that particular day.WRATH OF GOD isn't a terrible book, it just seems a bit forced at times and many of the characters aren't given enough time. The story takes place some fifty years after WWIII. A huge army, originating in the Middle East and Asia, has slowly but surely made it's way to America, riding horses and armed primarily with bows and arrows. The leader is named Tamerlane, who believes himself to be reincarnated from an ancient warrior with the same name. He's ruthless and his only desire is to dominate others. His mistress is just as evil and she fashions herself as the daughter of Belzeebub, the devil. As this horde of destruction nears The Citadel, America's last bastion of civilization, an incredible plan of defense is organized. With a newly developed time-travel device they are able to take individuals from the past and bring them to their present time. These people are George Patton, Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson and Amelia Earhart, who are able to coordinate a few thousand cowboys into an army of sorts. There's also a tame triceratops that plays a pivotal role. The Tamerlane villain is portrayed as extremely ruthless, but it's hard to believe him capable of keeping such a tight reign over his vast army. The story is quick-paced and an easy read, but much more suited to a graphic novel. It's just too cartoony. Sure, it's cool having these historical figures fighting in a future war but it just doesn't seem 'epic' enough.
